Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) employees from across the state have selected Joseph Heerdink from Madisonville Community College to represent them on the KCTCS Board of Regents. He is the regional director of information technology at MCC.
“We are a system of sixteen colleges each with their own complexities and a system office built to support those colleges to the best of their abilities,” Heerdink said. “We must find better ways together to not only maintain our current educational standards, but we owe it to our communities to make it better, sustainable and affordable.”
Heerdink was elected in a special election to fill a seat left vacant by a former staff Regent who resigned her position at a KCTCS college. The KCTCS Board of Regents has two staff members, two faculty members and two student members in addition to the majority of members that are appointed by the governor.
“It’s very important for the board to have input from staff and faculty as we discuss the future of KCTCS,” Board Chair Gail Henson said. “Joseph brings good experience and a strong understanding of the system to the position, and we all look forward to working with him.”
Heerdink’s term expires October 2021.
