Ky. Artisan Center to host opening reception for International Exhibition of Scratchboard Art May 17

An open to the public reception for the International Exhibition of Scratchboard Art will be held Friday, May 17, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Artisan Center. This exhibit features 61 works by 51 artists from all over the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, Germany, New Zealand, China and Portugal. This is the first international exhibit to be held at the Kentucky Artisan Center.

The opening reception will include introductions and short talks by guest jurors and the president of the International Society of Scratchboard Artists, Cathy Sheeter of Aurora, Colorado. Awards will be presented to exhibiting members and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

This exhibit showcases highly detailed and representational imagery with nature and animals as predominant subjects. Works are most often rendered in black and white, but the addition of colored inks give these works a full range of visual realism. Many of these works appear to be high-resolution photographs, fooling the observer upon the first encounter. The level of artistry in this exhibit is extraordinary.

In conjunction with this international exhibit, the Center is hosting the ISSA annual conference, coordinated by exhibition director and Kentucky scratchboard artist Kathy Conroy. Information and registration for the conference is available on the ISSA website.
