Ky Coalition Against Domestic Violence to offer free tax preparation service at Parkside Apartments

Kentucky Coalition Against Domestic Violence (KCADV) will be operating a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site at the Parkside Apartment Complex in Lexington through the 2018 tax season. KCADV has helped to provide this service to local residents for almost 10 years as a part of its nationally recognized Economic Empowerment Program.

The VITA program offers free tax help to people who make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their tax returns. Qualified residents should make an appointment or drop-in between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at 1060 Cross Keys Road, Lexington. To make an appointment, send a text to Isela Arras at 859-320-7759.

Arras, Senior Director of Training at KCADV, says, “By continuing to operate the VITA tax site at Parkside, we hope to reach our clients in the Latino Community who have been utilizing our services for years and know where to find us. We have been providing free tax preparation in Cardinal Valley for nearly a decade so that the site can be reached by foot if necessary, allowing us to help as many community members as possible.”

Residents planning to take advantage of the free tax preparation services should bring a valid picture ID, Social Security cards or ITIN letters for all family members, and income documentation for 2017 including all W-2 and 1099 forms, cash income received, etc. A checklist of what to bring to a VITA site can be found on the IRS website at www.irs.gov.
