Lexington Philharmonic’s PB&J Concert Series gets spooky Oct. 28 with Music Builds Thrills!

The second concerts of the Lexington Philharmonic’s 2017-2018 Peanut Butter & Jelly Concert Series will take place Saturday, October 28th at Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate and at the Community Arts Center, in Danville KY. Music Builds Thrills! will be presented at 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM at Ashland, and at 2:00 PM at the Community Arts Center. Following each half-hour PB&J concert, children will have the opportunity to try out instruments from each of the instrument families at LexPhil’s Instrument Petting Zoo enjoy PB&J sandwiches with their families.

Music Builds Thrills! is an energetic and interactive 30-minute concert featuring percussion, singing, and movement, led by percussionists, Austin Robinson and Matt Proffitt. Concert attendees will have the chance to play their very own drum as part of the program, and in the spirit of Halloween, LexPhil is encouraging all attendees to wear their costumes.

This season, LexPhil’s Peanut Butter & Jelly Concert Series is hosted by locations with strong cultural and historical ties to Kentucky. LexPhil is excited to present two morning Peanut Butter & Jelly Concerts at Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate in Lexington, KY at 10:00 and 11:00 am, and take the show on the road to the Community Arts Center in Danville, KY for a 2:00 pm show. For many children, the PB&J Series are their very first concert experience. LexPhil’s artistic staff, musicians, and venue partners work diligently to provide experiences that are engaging, educational, and fun.

“We are excited to welcome families to Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate for a Peanut Butter & Jelly concert,” says Jim Clark, Ashland’s Executive Director. “The music and venue are a perfect match, and we invite all attendees to make a day of it by touring the historic home and grounds at Ashland following the performance.”

LexPhil’s PB&J Concert Series, sponsored by The J.M. Smucker Company, is designed within the larger framework of LexPhil’s Music Builds education programs. Music Builds is based on the national STEAM movement, which emphasizes the importance of integrating the Arts into Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education (STEM + Arts = STEAM). By using repertoire from both popular films and the classic canon, LexPhil is able to engage young audiences with music that they are familiar with and encourage lasting connections.

LexPhil’s PB& Concert Series continues in 2018 with two more Saturday concert opportunities. On Saturday, March 3, 2018, Music Builds Exploration! comes to the Aviation Museum of Kentucky at 10:00 and 11:00 AM, and the Hummel Planetarium in Richmond, KY at 2:00 PM. The final PB&J concert, Music Builds Literacy!, will be held at Lyric Theatre at 10:00 and 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 28, 2018.
