Lindsey Wilson football ranked 12th in NAIA preseason Coaches’ Top 25 Poll


The Lindsey Wilson football team opens the 2016 season ranked 12th in NAIA Preseason Football Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office announced on Monday.

The Blue Raiders, who moved up one spot from the NAIA Spring Coaches’ Poll, garnered 177 total voting points.

Lindsey Wilson is coming off of an 8-3 season in 2015, which featured their second-straight appearance in the NAIA Football Championship Series.

Defending national champion, Marian (Ind.), is ranked atop the poll with 314 voting points and all 14 first-place votes. Southern Oregon is second in the poll with 302 points, while Morningside (Iowa) sits at No. 3 with 289 points.

Rounding out the top five is No. 4 St. Francis (Ind.) and No. 5 Baker (Kan.) with 276 and 267 voting points, respectively.

Reinhardt (Ga.) is the highest ranked team from the Mid-South Conference as they are ranked 11th in the poll with 202 points.

Campbellsville (Ky.) is ranked 17th in the poll with 104 points, followed by Georgetown (Ky.) at No. 18 with 102 points. Faulkner (Ala.) rounds out the teams from the Mid-South ranked inside the top 25 as they sit at No. 19 with 78 total points.

The Blue Raiders start their 2016 campaign on the road against Cumberland (Tenn.) in Lebanon, Tennessee, at 7 p.m. CT on Aug. 25.
