Monday by 4 p.m. — the deadline for registering to vote in Nov. 5 election; check ‘inactive voter list’ too

Monday, October 7, is the last day to register to vote in the November 5 election.

And it’s also the last day to be sure you are not one of the 175,000 Kentucky voters who have been removed from the voting lists, declared “inactive” by Kentucky’s State Board of Elections. Objections have been raised over this unilateral action but Kentucky voters must check the records to be sure of eligibility.

Both registration and your own voting records are easily accessed online.

DO NOT BE LEFT OUT OF THE VOTING PROCESS. VOTING IS A CITIZENSHIP RESPONSIBILITY.

To register, go to GoVoteKy.com and follow the easy steps.

“It’s imperative that Kentucky voters take the time to review the State Board of Elections’ “inactive list,” contact my office if they see their name, and update their registration at GoVoteKY.com,” said Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes.

Ahead of the October 7th voter registration deadline for Kentucky’s 2019 General Election on Tuesday, November 5th, all Kentucky voters should review the State Board of Elections’ “Inactive Voter List” for their name.

If Kentucky voters find their name on the “inactive voter list” voters should let the Secretary’s office know and visit GoVoteKY.com to review and update their voter registration records, no later than Monday, October 7, at 4 p.m. local time.

County clerks’ offices throughout Kentucky will accept online and paper voter registration applications until 4 p.m. local time on the deadline.

Mail-in voter registration applications must be postmarked by October 7.

To be eligible to vote, Kentuckians must:

• Be a U.S. citizen.
• Be a Kentucky resident for at least 28 days before Election Day.
• Be at least 18-years-old on or before the General Election.
• Not be a convicted felon, or if convicted of a felony offense, must have obtained a restoration of civil rights.
• Not have been adjudged “mentally incompetent.”
• Not claim the right to vote anywhere outside Kentucky.

Kentuckians who are 17-years-old but will be 18-years-old on or before November 5, 2019 are eligible to register and vote in the upcoming General Election.

Voters who have recently moved need to update their voter registration information by no later than October 7. (THAT’S MONDAY.)

Voters may view their current registration status and where they vote at GoVoteKY.com. For questions, contact your county clerk or the State Board of Elections at (502) 573-7100.
