National champion Lindsey Wilson women favored in Mid-South; Raider men also No. 1

Lindsey Wilson’s men’s and women’s soccer teams have been chosen as the favorites to capture the Mid-South Conference regular season title following a vote of league coaches.
 

On the women’s side, the Blue Raiders received 49 voting points and seven of the eight first-place votes from the conference coaches. Lindsey Wilson won the Mid-South regular season and tournament titles last season en route to capturing the program’s fourth NAIA National Championship in early December.
 

Cumberland (Tenn.) is second in the MSC preseason poll with 42 voting points and the final first-place vote. The Bulldogs reached their third straight NAIA National Tournament last season before falling to Lindsey Wilson in the national quarterfinals.
 

Campbellsville (Ky.) is third in the poll with 35 voting points while Shawnee State (Ohio) is projected to finish fourth with 30 voting points.
 

Georgetown (Ky.) is fifth in the balloting with 24 voting points and St. Catharine (Ky.) is sixth with 17 voting points. Cumberlands (Ky.) and Pikeville (Ky.) complete the preseason poll with 14 and 13 voting points respectively.
 

Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
 

The 2015 women’s soccer season begins next week. The Mid-South Conference Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 5, 6 and 13 at Lovers Lane Park in Bowling Green.
 

For the men, the Blue Raiders received 49 voting points, including seven of the eight first-place votes, from the conference coaches. Lindsey Wilson has won each of the last two regular season titles and 12 of 15 titles since joining the conference in 2000.

Campbellsville is second in the preseason poll with 39 voting points while Cumberland (Tenn.) and St. Catharine (Ky.) are tied for third with 35 voting points. St. Catharine received the final first-place vote in the balloting.
 

The three teams tied for second in the regular season standings last season with identical 5-2 conference marks.
 

Cumberlands (Ky.) is projected fifth with 22 voting points followed closely by Shawnee State (Ohio) with 21 voting points. Georgetown (Ky.) and Pikeville (Ky.) complete the preseason poll with 14 and seven voting points respectively.
