Two former Kentucky high school or college athletes participated in the sixth full day of the London Olympics. You can see a rundown of their performances below:
Basketball
Former UK basketball player Anthony Davis scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds while playing for most of the second half in Team USA’s record-setting 156-73 blowout win versus Nigeria. Davis was 4-4 from the field and 1-2 from the free-throw line. The U. S. team returns to action on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. EST against Lithuania.
Fencing
Paul Laurence Dunbar High School alum Lee Kiefer and her fellow U. S. fencers were eliminated from medal contention in the women’s team foil event with a 45-31 loss to Korea in the quarterfinal round. The U. S. team eventually ended up in sixth place with a 44-22 win versus Japan and a 45-39 loss to Poland. The team foil event was Keifer’s last match of the London games.
