OPEN LETTER TO OUR READERS: We need your support as NewsMatch deadline (Dec. 31) looms

To our readers:

KyForward needs your support as the December 31 deadline looms for the annual match from the coalition of national donors who provide NewsMatch funds. Given the terrific COVID-driven needs in our state, we have not been as aggressive in promoting our NewsMatch campaign this year. We have hungry people to feed, the homeless to house, a pandemic to address, restaurant workers to worry about — and so many other needy and important issues to address. We respect those as priorities for your generosity.

With just a few days to achieve a modest goal for the NewsMatch campaign — and in the after-days of Christmas — we are now asking for your support to push us over the top. We’d like to obtain the maximum match — and NewsMatch has just increased their match by an extra $1,000 to help propel our campaign. They match contributions up to $5,000 per individual — but please understand that we value every donation and every individual is important to us.

You know the service we provide. You know that we care about our state as much as you do. You know that when you need us, we respond. You know that we provide local/state news 24/7 without fail, day after day. You know that we provide a special emphasis on public service and journalism with a heart. We don’t have to tell you that — thousands of readers turn to us and count on us — and we have been here nearly 10 years, serving you as best we can. Your support will determine how much longer we can continue to provide KyForward, free to all readers all the time.

Now, we hope we can count on you. NewsMatch awards bonuses not just on the amount of money we can secure, but on the NUMBER of individual donors who participate.

You can give online here, a secure place. Or you can mail a check — dated by December 31 — made out to the Kentucky Center for Public Service Journalism, 644 Braddock Court, Edgewood, Kentucky 41017.

Your contribution is tax deductible as allowed by law.

Thank you for your support and encouragement. Stay safe and take care of your families.
