Rex Chapman launches grassroots campaign ‘Pass the Hat with Rex’ to benefit Nourish Lexington


The Rex Chapman Foundation is launching “Pass the Hat with Rex,” a grassroots social campaign to benefit Nourish Lexington. is committing $25,000 in matching funds from his foundation.

The Lexington community and beyond will have the opportunity to join Chapman in this campaign by either creating their own TikTok/”Pass the Hat” video or simply donating at NourishLexington.org. Use the hashtag #passthehatwithREX when you share on social so Chapman can see your generosity.

In addition, JMI and its media partners will highlight the campaign on game day broadcasts and digital media opportunities surrounding the University of Kentucky men’s basketball games tonight and Feb. 13.

Since its founding in April 2020, Nourish Lexington, powered by FoodChain, has been able to provide:

• More than 225,000 wholesome, free scratch-made meals to food insecure youth, seniors and families. Of those, 75,000 have been provided to children.
• More than $125,000 in direct payments to food professionals for their labor in this effort.
• $475,000 in contracts with 22 local restaurants and caterers to help prepare meals.
• $20,000 of local produce from 22 area farmers.
• $45,000 with local distributors.

Nourish Lexington, powered by FoodChain, was formed in April 2020 as an innovative collaboration among Keeneland, VisitLEX and FoodChain, seeded by the Murry Foundation, to help provide nutritious meals to anyone in need while also supporting the economic backbone of the region’s food and service industry.
