Southwest Airlines to fly out of CVG to Chicago and to Baltimore/Washington starting in June

Southwest Airline announced at the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) that it will begin flights to Chicago (Midway) and to Baltimore/Washington in June.

The airline will discontinue flying out of Dayton and Akron-Canton..

“We are excited to welcome Southwest Airlines to CVG and Northern Kentucky,” said Campbell County Judge Executive Steve Pendery, Northern Kentucky Tri-ED Board Chair.

“The addition of Southwest Airlines makes our outstanding business climate even stronger. We also congratulate the CVG team, led by Candace McGraw, on all their hard work in securing Southwest Airlines.”S

Southwest said it will offer three flights daily to Baltimore and five daily to Chicago from CVG.

Dallas-based Southwest created the model for low-fare airlines and is the world’s largest low-cost carrier.

It emphasizes customer service and no reserved seating, baggage or change fees.

“Today is a remarkable reminder that the reforms we made to the airport board in 2015 continue to yield tremendous benefits to our community. By delivering greater accountability and protecting professionalism, we’ve positioned our region’s airport to succeed in the 21st century.

“I’m very proud of Board Chair Mike Schlotman, the whole Airport Board, CEO Candace McGraw and the entire team at CVG, and I’m very optimistic about our airport’s future and the role it will play in our community’s economic development efforts for decades to come,” said Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann.
