Secretary of State’s office received word from Westerfield on Friday saying, “I hereby state that I will not accept the nomination or election, and request the Secretary of State’s office to withdraw my name as a candidate.”

Messages left with the Christian County legislator were not immediately returned.

His withdrawal leaves Daniel Cameron, a Louisville attorney and former counsel for U. S. Senator Mitch McConnell, as the only GOP candidate who has filed candidacy papers with the Secretary of State.

Former Democrat Attorney General Greg Stumbo is expected to file his papers for the office Friday afternoon.
