UK football receives commitment from Rivals' No. 1-ranked all-purpose running back recruit

Staff report

The new UK football staff’s recruiting momentum continued Thursday with a verbal commitment from the nation’s No. 1 all-purpose back.

Stanley Williams, a running back from Bethlehem, Ga., committed to UK during a campus visit. He confirmed the news via his Twitter account.

Rivals.com ranks Williams as the No. 1 all-purpose back in the country and 96th best prospect in the class of 2014. If he signs with UK in February, he would be the highest ranked UK recruit since linebacker Micah Johnson signed with UK as Rivals’ 36th best recruit in 2004.

Williams is the fifth verbal commitment in UK’s 2014 class ranked as a four-star prospect by Rivals, joining quarterback Drew Barker, running back Mikel Horton, wide receiver Thaddeus Snodgrass and defensive back Darius West. Williams’ commitment moved UK’s 2014 recruiting class to No. 3 nationally in Rivals’ current team rankings.

Verbal commitments are not binding, and UK can not comment about prospects until they sign a national letter of intent in February or enroll in classes.
