Walmart will host a “Day of Giving” at the Kentucky State Capitol at 1:30 p.m. Monday, awarding 10 nonprofits a Walmart Foundation Kentucky State Giving Grant. The Walmart Day of Giving, featuring local elected officials, will award grants totaling $503,000 to following organizations:

• Purchase Area Development District – $108,000
• Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland – $80,000
• God’s Pantry Food Bank – $75,000
• Boys and Girls Club of Hopkinsville – $70,000
• Ashland Community Kitchen – $40,000
• Apple Patch Community Inc. – $ 30,000
• American National Red Cross – $ 25,000
• Boys & Girls Haven – $ 25,000
• Ky. Sheriffs’ Boys Ranch Trust – $ 25,000
• Samaritan’s Feet International – $ 25,000

Last year, Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles launched the Kentucky Hunger Initiative, a first-of-its-kind effort in Kentucky to identify food solutions for Kentuckians who need it most. Similarly, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation look for organizations that address the needs of the communities they serve and make a significant social impact within Walmart’s core areas of giving: hunger relief and healthy eating, sustainability, women’s economic empowerment, and career opportunity.
