Warren East senior follows draft selection by being named Mr. Kentucky Baseball

Mr. Kentucky Baseball is also the state’s highest drafted high school player.

Warren East High School senior pitcher and infielder Mark Biggs, the eighth-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2011 draft and a University of Louisville signee, was named Mr. Baseball by the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Association Monday.

Biggs batted .442 with 12 home runs, 45 RBIs and 37 runs during the regular season. He was 4-0 with a 2.33 ERA and 41 strikeouts with 16 walks in 30 innings pitched. He earned the win in Warren East’s first-round win over Letcher County Central High School in the KHSAA state baseball tournament.

Biggs was joined on KHSBCA first-team All-State team by 2011 draftees Chandler Shepherd (Lawrence County), Matt Spalding (St. Xavier), Taylor Martin (Lexington Catholic), Jackson Laumann (Boone County) and Sutton Whiting (Ballard). Central Hardin High School head coach Todd Thompson was named the KHSBCA coach of the year.
