West Virginia transfer Brandon Knapper granted waiver by NCAA for immediate eligibility at EKU

Eastern Kentucky University basketball head coach A.W. Hamilton has announced that West Virginia transfer Brandon Knapper has been granted a waiver by the NCAA that makes him immediately eligible to compete.

A 6-0 guard from Ontario, California, Knapper played the past two seasons at West Virginia. He appeared in 27 games for the Mountaineers last season, averaging 2.6 points and earning second team Academic All-Big 12 honors.

As a redshirt freshman in 2018-19, Knapper averaged 5.0 points per game and poured in a career-high 25 points (including 4-of-6 shooting from deep) in a win over Oklahoma.

Knapper played for Hamilton at Hargrave Military Academy during the 2016-17 season. He averaged 18.0 points and 3.1 assists per game, while shooting 39 percent from 3-point range and 95 percent from the free throw line, to help lead Hargrave to the National Prep Final Four.

Before arriving at Hargrave, Knapper was a three-time all-state performer at South Charleston (W.Va.) High School. He averaged 28.5 points, 6.0 assists and 5.4 steals per game as a senior.

“I had the privilege of coaching Brandon at Hargrave Military Academy,” Hamilton said. “He’s not only a great talent but he’s a great young man, and he will have a major impact in our program. I’m so happy for him that he will be able to display his talents this season.”
