Wandale Robinson has made his college choice and is staying close to home.

The Western Hills High School senior running back verbally committed to Kentucky Thursday afternoon. Robinson, a four-star recruit, choice the Wildcats over Ohio State and Nebraska. He also chose Kentucky over Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, and Purdue.

“It really came down to trust,” Robinson said. “My family and I had talked today and it just came down to them. They have been on me the hardest since I started being recruited.”

During the regular season, Robinson rushed for 1,844 yards and scored 28 touchdowns on 193 carries. Robinson averaged 184 yards per game and added 493 yards and nine scores on 22 catches this season. He also completed eight of 10 passes for 173 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

He also led the Wolverines in tackles with 105 tackles, including 95 solo stops. He added six forced fumbles and collected three interceptions. Western Hills (7-3) will play at Lawrence County in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs Friday night.

Robinson said he’s ready for the expectations that will be expected of him once he arrives on campus. The Wildcats (7-1) are ranked No. 11 going into Saturday’s Southeastern Conference Eastern Division showdown against sixth-ranked Georgia.

“They have really expressed how much they need me,” Robinson said. “I know the impact I’ll be able to have on and off the field.”

Robinson also is considered a front-runner for Mr. Football. Robinson plans to enroll in January and take part in spring workouts.
