Bo Lanter is a born entrepreneur. He exhibited his entrepreneurial spirit early on when he left the Midwestern State University basketball team in 1978 after his freshman year, having decided he would take his chances as a walk-on for the University of Kentucky Wildcats. After sitting out a year per NCAA regulations, Bo earned a full scholarship the next three years.

He had grown up in Versailles, after all, and had blue in his veins.

“Every Kentucky boy with an inclination to play basketball dreams of wearing that UK uniform,” he says. “I can’t express the overwhelming feeling myself of playing basketball for the Wildcats and putting on that UK uniform.”

Known as “Bo,” few know his full name is Samuel Tod Lanter Jr., he played from 1979-82 for Coach Joe B. Hall, eventually earning a full scholarship and a business degree.

The 6-1 guard from Woodford County High played with the likes of Sam Bowie, Kyle Macy, Melvin Turpin, Fred Cowan, LaVon Williams, Dirk Minniefield, Derrick Hord and Jim Master.

His best memory is helping the #2 ranked ‘Cats defeat Nortre Dame, coached by the famed Digger Phelps, 86-80 during his sophomore year. He scored two points in seven minutes of reserve play.

His last game at Rupp Arena also afforded some fond memories. “Senior night is special, all on its own, but on that night, I hit every shot I took, including the 72-footer at the end of the game. What a way to end your career!” The home finale score against Mississippi State was 71-54.

His basketball entrepreneurship rewarded, he continue on that path in his business career, starting right after graduation as co-owner of Starpath Corporation, which grew into one of the largest satellite distributors in the country. When the company was sold, he created opportunities in the intellectual properties industry and began developing a number of products, trademark and business concepts. He worked with start-up companies, with high profile venture capital groups, and in commercial real estate.

Today, he focusing on another venture under Lanter Concepts LLC – a line of sportswear, starting with T-Shirts and hats with his F5 STRONG trademarked products.

Lanter has been planning this venture for some time, having had an idea for a a values-based concept he believes will have wide appeal. He developed the values expression around five “F’s” – Faith, Family, Friends, Fitness and Fun, and expresses them this way:

FAITH is your driving force! Follow your dreams with a positive attitude, maximum effort and open mind to obtain the goals you hold dear to your heart. All things are possible, believe in yourself and your faith. It is up to you to make your dreams reality!

FAMILY is the reason for your very existence! The “chain of life” is truly a gift you share with the people you love most. Strive to be the strongest link in the chain by using patience, support, strength and most important unconditional love!

FRIENDS enhance the healthy foundation you desire for you and your loved ones! Surround yourself with people who support your positive beliefs, values and morals. Sharing life with people you love and trust will heighten experiences and strengthen relationships!

FITNESS allows you to maximize life’s opportunities! Your mind and body are a gift that should be exercised and challenged to enable you to remain active and enjoy life. Maintain the mind and body you have been blessed with so that you can participate in the activities that create the memories you will always cherish!

FUN is a must. Be happy, focus on the positive, always be honest and enjoy life. Don’t burden yourself, don’t worry and forgive others. Be thankful and strive to get the most enjoyment possible from everything you do. Life is a gift, get the absolute most out of it!

His products are imprinted with a “broken smile” design that features the five “F’s” as a signature. The shirts and hats come in variations – that included the five “F’s,” “Attitude,” and “state” options in a variety of colors and either cotton or dry fit.
