Willie Cauley-Stein blocks update: Post-Mississippi State/pre-Vanderbilt

Willie Cauley-Stein had two blocks Wednesday night against Mississippi State, a subpar night that has set him back a bit off Anthony Davis’ pace. We all knew the pace was insane, because the end result was insane, but here we are. Cauley-Stein now has 55 blocks through 14 games to Davis’ 64 (and to Nerlens Noel’s 49). Cauley-Stein’s block percentage has fallen over the past few games, and it’s now down to 13.3.

He’s in danger of falling out of the running entirely, but the Wildcats’ next opponent may be a good one for Cauley-Stein to get a bunch of blocks against. Vanderbilt is 227th in Division I with a 10.5 offensive block percentage. To add to that, freshman center Damian Jones will get a lot of touches and shot attempts in the paint. He was 6-of-12 in Vanderbilt’s 68-63 road loss to Alabama on Tuesday.
